Why have another website on urban food?

  1. Unlike other such sites, this one will focus on the alleviation of poverty in urban communities through urban agriculture.
  2. In an increasingly urbanised age, we need to reconsider the urban environment and how best to utilise it. This will undoubtedly involve considerations of how to sustain and universalise the contribution of urban agriculture to the improvement of  health and the environment.
  3. Urbanag believes the goal of developing urban agriculture must necessarily involve enhancing skills and employment opportunities within the most disadvantaged urban communities.
  4. We also believe that the changes markets need to embrace in order to allow urban agriculture to flourish will have an impact on the economic models that inform policy decisions at all levels.
  5. This site is not an academic exercise nor a medium for remote engagement. It is intended to bring urban agriculture home to everyone involved in making our economy work, including trade unionists, employers, community and faith-based organisations, statutory and non-statutory servie providers,  leaders and policy makers. We welcome the involvement of everyone, and encourage practical solutions to pressing problems.
